Open Call GSS/Triangle-Astérides 2027

International Exchange with Triangle-Astérides

Open Call for Applications

For a residency at Triangle-Astérides (Marseille), in partnership with Glasgow Sculpture Studios from January 11, 2027 to March 12, 2027.

About the Exchange

Established in 2012, this exchange residency (alternating each year) is intended for artists who have not yet received major institutional support or had the opportunity to develop their work abroad. The program enables artists based in Glasgow to work in France, share their practice, and acquire new skills, while reciprocally offering artists based in Marseille the opportunity to travel to Glasgow and discover the Scottish cultural landscape.

The partnership between Glasgow Sculpture Studios (GSS) and Triangle-Astérides developed following the twinning of Glasgow and Marseille in 2006. Located in former industrial sites, GSS and Triangle-Astérides share similar goals, challenges, and working contexts. They support local artistic communities by fostering a collaborative and diverse creative environment, notably by providing access to artists’ studios, high-quality production facilities, and cultural networks.

The Opportunity

Triangle-Astérides would like to invite applications for participation in this exchange for a research residency. The exchange is designed for artists at a pivotal point in their career and who have not had major institutional support or the opportunity to develop work abroad. Artists must be living and working in Glasgow.

The residency period is from January 11, 2027 to March 12, 2027 (60 days).

The program offers:

— a 60 m² studio at Triangle-Astérides (individual, unless the application is submitted by a duo);
— a private bedroom (or two bedrooms for duos) in a 90 m², four-bedroom apartment shared with other residents and/or guests of Triangle-Astérides (shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room), located in downtown Marseille;
— a monthly residency fee of €1,000 gross, paid to the artist upon submission of an invoice (in the case of a duo application, the fee will be paid to the administrative entity and cannot be doubled);
— a paid Open Studio;

— return travel costs covered (on presentation of invoice)

 — individual support (depending on expressed needs: networking, research support, curatorial or administrative advice, etc.) from the Triangle-Astérides team, within the limits of its capacity (our team of three unfortunately cannot dedicate as much time to residents as we would like).

About the residency period:

January-March is a period conducive to concentration, ideal for carrying out focused research or completing a project / opening of one of Triangle-Astérides’ two annual exhibitions in late January or early February, which results in reduced availability of the team beforehand due to exhibition installation / generally mild temperatures (5–20°C), although the mistral wind is frequent.

How to Apply:

 Applications should take the form of a single PDF document comprised of the following:

— Your contact details (Name, Address & Postcode, Telephone No, Email)

— A statement outlining how a residency with Triangle-Astérides would enable you to develop your artistic practice? (350 words)

— A portfolio / artistic file including images and texts (up to 15 pages) that provide insight into the practice of the applicant(s). For artists working with video: please include links for online viewing (Vimeo or Youtube, for example) in the PDF application.

— Artist CV (2 A4 pages maximum)

Application deadline: Friday, October 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM (Glasgow time). The responses will be communicated during the week of November 16. Please note, late applications will not be considered.

Completed applications should be sent via WeTransfer to info@glasgowsculpturestudios.org.

Please note emails with attachments will not be received, so applications must be sent via WeTransfer.

If you have any further questions or require any assistance with your application, please contact Glasgow Sculpture Studios at info@glasgowsculpturestudios.org.

About Triangle-Astérides:

Triangle-Astérides is a center for contemporary art of national interest based in Marseilles at La Friche la Belle de Mai, a cultural cooperative located in a former tobacco factory, since 1994.

Triangle-Astérides articulates a rigorous program of exhibitions (solo, duo and group shows) with research and experimentation residencies for artists from the French and international scenes (within the main program and partnership programs), the providing of studios for local artists, and through the artistic and curatorial support of the residents of the Marseille City Studios, to which are added events, editorial projects and a thorough outreach to all audiences.

Triangle-Astérides is part of international networks (notably the Triangle Network, which initiated the founding of Triangle-Astérides which remains a member while operating independently), as well as national and local networks (with the merger, in 2018, of Triangle France and Astérides). Connecting these different scales is at the heart of all its activities. Mindful of each individual’s needs, Triangle-Astérides ensures, to the best of its ability, the accessibility of all its programs for the public as well as for the invited artists. Upon request tours can be offered in French Sign Language and through audio description). The building has step-free access. To reach the upper floors of La Friche, an elevator is available for use. Accessible toilets are also available on site. Please note, however, that during exhibition installation and dismantling periods, the elevator is in heavy use and may experience breakdowns.

Triangle-Astérides' communication elements are available in French and English (sometimes translated by professional translators, often translated into imperfect English by the team itself). Occasionally and upon request, our programs can also be translated into other languages.

Triangle-Astérides is a non-profit association supported by the Ministry of Culture - Drac Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, the City of Marseille, the South Region and the Bouches du Rhône Department. Its team is composed of four people; its board of five people including an artist.
