Gustavo Ferro

Grinding Series

From August to September SWG3 gallery and Glasgow Sculpture Studios have played host to the Sao Paulo based Brazilian artist Gustavo Ferro, as part of an international exchange with Phosphorus (SP) supported by Creative Scotland and the British Council’s TRANSFORM project. Whilst on residency in Glasgow Ferro has been engaging in depth with a process of exploration and learning about urban situations and environments, focusing in particular on the way architecture places itself as an obstacle to mould social behaviours in public space. Often developed through interventions, videos, drawings and installations Ferro’s work reflects on the status of objects and their use in the everyday life of the city, and he has used the residency as an opportunity to focus on sculpture and performativity, the ways our bodies interact with both everyday and artistic objects. Gustavo will be exhibiting work produced while using the facilities at GSS at SWG3 Gallery with a preview on the 9th of September 6-9pm. The exhibition will run from Saturday 10th until Friday 23rd (Thursday – Sunday) or by appointment.

Gustavo Ferro’s residency and exhibition are part of a International Exchange Program, between São Paulo and Glasgow initiated and hosted by Phosphorus a project space in the city center of São Paulo, Brazil; and supported in Glasgow by SWG3 Gallery and Glasgow Sculpture Studios. The International Exchange which involved Alexander Storey Gordon’s residency and exhibition at Phosphorus in November 2015, is funded and supported by Creative Scotland and the British Council as part of the TRANSFORM project, which looks to create cultural partnerships between the UK and Brazil. The project is indebted to its funders and the work of Maria Montero director of Phosphorus and Sé Gallery and Gustavo Ferro and Alexander Storey Gordon, who not only participated in the project as artists but also provided practical and curatorial support to each other during their exchange.
