Chema Rodríguez Alcántara
Chema Rodríguez Alcántara
i believe my work must be made in substraction of material and not in addition to the destruction of the natural environment which we must co-exist with. my work is a melding of geographies: my place of birth and my current home, both in material qualities and narratives. the work that results is subtle but human, a rejection of consumption and the frenzy of contemporary live, arguing for quiet reflection and introspection.
chema was born in southern spain, and is currently based in glasgow, scotland. though always interested in art they only made their own starting in early adulthood, experimenting with photography and found material. eventually they enrolled at the glasgow school art where they achieved a masters in fine art practice with distinction. they're currently working on expanding several bodies of work and establishing an independent practice of their own.
chema's work has been exhibited in many venues across the central belt of scotland, including but not limited to: horsepower, street level photoworks, strange field, summerhall and embassy gallery.
