Beth Shapeero

Beth Shapeero works across different art forms, but painting is the root of her practice, so if she makes a sculpture, it’s still a kind of painting. Collaboration and social engagement are at the centre of her activities; working with people, sharing and reciprocity fuel her practice.

Abstraction is also a key feature in her work: ‘Abstraction allows us to make without being too explicit, it allows space for wonder, contemplation and strangeness without having to make sense. It can be playful and purposeful within itself - free.’

Beth is currently working towards a solo show ‘Playing Up’ at Glasgow Print Studio with her collaborator Fraser Taylor, they have an extensive printmaking practice called ‘Two-Step’.

She has recently had solo shows at 16 Nicholson Street Gallery (Glasgow, 2022), and Studio Pavilion at House for an Art Lover (Glasgow, 2022). In 2020 she was awarded the prestigious ARMA commission which took place in The Tetley (Leeds, 2022) and she has taken part in the 2014, 2016 and 2018 iterations of Glasgow International Festival.
