Beñat Krolem: Tabakalera, Glasgow/San Sebastian Exchange Residency

The Tabakalera exchange programme aims to support and contribute to the mobility of artists, and encourage cultural exchange between artists and arts organisations internationally.
Hospitalfield and Glasgow Sculpture Studios hosted Basque artist Beñat Krolem in September 2026 to create work in Scotland, while the selected Scottish artist will be hosted at Tabakalera February to March 2027.

Beñat Krolem (Bilbao, 1990) studied at the University of the Basque Country (EHU) and at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). His work explores sound, oral, and visual improvisation, focusing on the performative dimension of the body and its relationship with space. Through sculpture and the construction of devices, displays, and furniture, he is interested in improvisational movements and the communities that sustain them, paying special attention to the gestures and materials that emerge through making, as well as to situations in which encounter plays a central role.

He was a resident at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York) as part of the Basque Artists Program and recent exhibitions and performances have taken place at La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Azkuna Zentroa, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), Kursaal (Donostia/San Sebastián), Studio D (London), and Fondazione 107 and the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti (Turin).
