Interested in the home made, hand made, DIY and shonkiness as well as precision, shape and form, Morven Mulgrew likes abstract absurdities and grandiose gestures, particularly when pathetically expressed. She thinks through materials and actions. She is a professional amateur and part time hobbyist. Working across sculpture, performance and costume she makes artefact, live work and costume concerned with the body. She has recently taken up pottery and sometimes makes shoes for Madame Tussaud’s.
Morven Mulgrew is an interdisciplinary artist based in Glasgow working across sculpture, performance and costume. She graduated from GSA Sculpture in 2004, Cordwainers College London 2007 and Ecole Du Theatre Jacques Lecoq, Paris 2012. She has shown work at Roxy Assembly with Creative Edinburgh; Platform, Glasgow; Colchester Arts Centre, Colchester; Buzzcut Festival, Glasgow; Appetite Festival, Stoke. She won the A-N Collaborations Bursary in 2014 and is a core member of Rebecca Davie’s project The Oasis Social Club, where she works with members of the public building sculpture from cardboard. She has shown ceramics work with Local Heroes in Edinburgh in 2018 and has upcoming installations and shows in Glasgow, Birmingham and Bristol.
