Standards – Performance Art Workshops with Gordon Douglas
Saturdays | 1100 – 1700
11th & 18th Nov
Over two sessions this course aims to give you an introduction to performance art practices. By taking famous performance artworks throughout history as our starting point together we’ll devise, rehearse, and perform new works. Through playful response to exercises, improvisation, rules, and instructions, Standards aims to provide you with a testing ground to explore and develop your own performance repertoire.
You’ll also have the opportunity to share your works with an audience at Glasgow Sculpture Studios following the final session.
Gordon Douglas is a performance artist working closely with organisations and groups towards deconstructing the acts of performance, education and collaboration within institutional habit.
He graduated from the Environmental Art department at Glasgow School of Art in 2013, and attended an exchange semester at CalArts, California. From 2013-15, he served on the Transmission committee. In June 2017, Gordon co-programmed Shoulder-to-Shoulder, the annual Fieldwork International Summer School at Hospitalfield with Cicely Farrer. The Summer School borrowed the performance vernacular of the scratch night in order to open up a testing ground for how we might communally perform or enact a political ‘fizz’ from positions within the global artistic multitude.
