The Glasgow School of Art’s Friday Event Lecture
Iman Issa‘s Free Public Events Programme begins with a lecture as part of The Glasgow School of Art’s prestigious Friday Event Lecture Series, organised by The School of Fine Art.
Friday 17 April 2015
11am – 12:30pm
Glasgow Film Theatre, Rose Street,
FREE, no booking required
For this lecture, Issa will introduce and speak about her work including Common Elements, 2013 to be presented in the exhibition Parables at Glasgow Sculpture Studios. This will be Issa’s first exhibition in a UK public institution, and GSS’ first exhibition with an Egyptian artist.
Issa’s work explores the relationship between history, memory, language, and objects. She does this through the presentation of multiple forms, including sculpture, text, video, photography and sound. Primarily interested in how forms can carry personal and political significance, her sources for the works are taken from existing material. This material is then stripped back to its essential elements and re-imagined by the artist into another form.
The Glasgow School of Art Friday Event lecture series has been running since the early 1990s and is GSA’s flagship public lecture programme.
Friday Event lectures are an integral part of the academic curricula, bringing major international speakers within contemporary art, design and architecture to the City of Glasgow. All events are free and open to the public.
This event is supported by The Glasgow School of Art.
