Creative Cargo is a new mobile engagement programme brought to you by Glasgow Sculpture Studios (GSS) and local partners based around the geography of the Forth & Clyde Canal. Creative Cargo is a barge, a floating sculpture studio that will travel along the canal and deliver outreach engagement workshops for communities as well as inviting local groups to take over the space and share their usual social setting within the context of the canal.

From the locks at Maryhill to where it meets the Clyde at Bowling, the canal cuts across Glasgow, flowing past high rise and bungalow, meadow and urban sprawl, graveyard and abandoned factory. Creative Cargo and GSS’ partnership with other organisations located in the area will act as a catalyst for the rebirth of the canal and present a new purpose and opportunity for public engagement and learning.

Creative Cargo will enable GSS to work with audiences both on and off site, to develop and enhance partnerships across the city and provide quality creative experiences which will enhance the lives and opportunities for the citizens of Glasgow. Creative Cargo aims to include non-traditional visual arts audiences to contribute in a positive way to problems of economic, social, physical and environmental decline along the path of the canal.

Creative Cargo is delighted to announce its first Canal artists-in-residence Owl Project. You can find out more about their project here
