Sarah Rose‘s practice considers processes of observation that function to witness or evidence an event. Contesting the document as a stable form, she focuses on the extra-informational qualities: corrupted translations, cumulative error, abstractions, and transformations produced within situated environments. Rose uses a variety of approaches to withdraw authorship from private and public forms of representation in order to engage with complicated understandings of subjectivity and biography. Investigating the legacies of documentation practices, she is influenced by photographic, literary, and oral histories. Current work involves deliberately confusing concepts of authenticity particularly in relationship to visibility and mortality. Her work consists of sculpture, installation, publishing, writing, still and moving image.
